It’s that time of year again – Mouth Cancer Action Month! This charity campaign aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer and the importance of catching it as early as possible.
Between 85 – 90% of cases of mouth cancer can be linked to lifestyle and environmental factors – including HPV, alcohol and smoking.
When it comes to cancer, early detection is vital. If caught early enough, mouth cancer suffers have a survival outcome of about 90%. However, if diagnosis is delayed, this number plummets to 50%!
Symptoms of mouth cancer include: red and white patches in the mouth, ulcers which don’t heal with 3 weeks, and unusual swellings or lumps in the mouth.
If you have been suffering from any of these symptoms, please head to your dentist to get checked out.
