A recent study presented at a meeting of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has revealed that people in Liverpool perform more searches for non-invasive Botox procedures than any other region in the world, with ‘regional cultural factors’ being the reason cited by the experts analysing the data as to why people often want to have these procedures.
The data also revealed that internet searches made in the south of the UK for cosmetic treatments are more likely to be surgical with breast implants, nose jobs and tummy tucks coming out on top.
People searching online for Botox rose by 31% between 2011 and 2016 according to the study, while searches for lip filler procedures rose by 78% in the same period. Though one expert warned that the search in demand meant people could be seeking treatments from practitioners who are not properly qualified.
‘There are significant dangers in going away from board-certified or qualified cosmetic outcomes,’ warned Dr Ryan Sugrue, a plastic surgeon at Cork University Hospital.
‘Traditionally the US has been the gold standard for interest in cosmetic procedures, but there has been a transatlantic shift to the UK’.
